Proview Eye Care on Benton Road in Winchester offers the range of independent optometry—routine exams, contact lens fitting, dry eye evaluation, pediatric care, and surgical referrals for cataract and LASIK work. The practice maintains an in-house optical shop with frame selection and lab services, meaning prescriptions filled the same day without ordering delays or shipping waits. The scope extends beyond basic refraction to address the practical eye-health issues that affect older adults and regular computer users in the area. For Winchester residents comparing independent optometry against chain retailers or big-box vision centers, Proview represents the direct-relationship model: one provider over multiple visits rather than different examiners each time, a frame selection curated by staff who've worked with local patients, and the flexibility to spend appointment time on less common concerns like dry eye or low-vision adjustment. Insurance plans including VSP and EyeMed are typically accepted. Patients seeking a standing relationship with a single eye-care provider—particularly those with ongoing conditions or complex prescriptions—find this setup more practical than the appointment-slot convenience of larger chains.
Anthony Culotta operates an independent optometry practice on California Oaks Road in Murrieta, handling routine eye exams, contact lens fittings, and common vision problems in an office setting rather than a high-volume chain environment. The practice accepts standard vision insurance plans and carries frames in-house, allowing patients to finish an exam and leave with updated glasses or contacts the same day when needed. Residents choosing an independent optometrist over a chain typically want a slower appointment pace, a doctor who spends time on problem-solving rather than moving through numbers, and a local practice that remembers their history across visits. This suits families with pediatric patients who need patience during their first exams, contact lens wearers who need precise fitting rather than a quick dispense, and anyone managing dry eye or other chronic vision issues that benefit from continuity of care. For surgical referrals or complex low-vision work, Anthony Culotta coordinates with specialists; for straightforward exams and glasses updates, staying local eliminates the waiting-room inefficiency of a shopping-mall optical.

Get ListedGroom Julie H OD operates a single-provider optometry practice on Benton Road in Winchester, handling routine eye exams, contact lens fitting, and basic eyewear dispensing from an in-office setting. The scope is standard primary-care optometry—vision checks, refraction, common eye health screening—rather than surgical intervention or specialized low-vision rehabilitation. Frame selection and lens finishing happen in-house, allowing same-visit or next-day turnaround on glasses. This setup suits Winchester residents who prefer a direct relationship with their eye care provider over the high-traffic chain model, particularly families needing pediatric exams or patients with contact lens complications that benefit from hands-on fitting rather than phone support. Most major vision plans—VSP, EyeMed, and similar—are typically accepted, though confirming coverage before the visit remains practical. For advanced surgical referrals (cataract, LASIK, retinal concerns), the practice refers out to specialists; the value here is the unhurried exam and the ability to walk out with glasses the same day rather than waiting for a lab order to process elsewhere.
I've been going to Dr Groom for 25+ years. She is an amazing doctor and person! I would give her 10 stars if I could.
Dr Groom is THE best. My family (husband, 3 daughters and 90yo mother) all travel over an hour just for her care and expertise. She takes her time with us all and exhibits true compassion and care.
Excellent staff! Dr. Groom is the best Optometrist! I don't mind driving close to three hours for my family's yearly appointment. There is also an excellent selection of designer frames!
What Locals Know
Winchester residents and surrounding Temecula Valley communities experience high dry eye prevalence due to summer heat, low humidity, and extended outdoor activity — optometrists here field frequent dry eye complaints and benefit from having diagnostic capability on-site rather than referring out for every case.
