Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard sits on Washington Avenue in Murrieta, operating in the casual frozen-treat category where the visit fits into an evening out or weekend errand rather than a dedicated destination trip. The model centers on self-serve cups and cones — customers choose their base (Italian ice, frozen custard, or a combination), then load from a toppings bar stocked with sprinkles, candies, sauces, and mix-ins. Flavor rotation keeps the menu fresh across seasons, with seasonal offerings alongside year-round standards. The clientele clusters around families with kids stopping by after dinner, teenagers meeting up on weekend nights, and parents looking for a quick treat run during summer months when foot traffic stays steady into the evening. Winter quiets down, as is typical for frozen shops in Southern California. The self-serve format means less wait time than a full-counter operation and gives kids some autonomy in building their own bowl. It's the kind of spot where a group can spend twenty minutes or grab and go in five, depending on the occasion.

La Michoacana & Fruits operates on Madison Avenue in Murrieta as a casual frozen-yogurt stop with a self-serve format and an extensive toppings bar — the kind of place where the visit unfolds at your own pace, from flavor selection through topping load-out to the register. The setup suits families with kids, groups of teenagers, and solo visitors looking for a quick weekend treat without the commitment of a sit-down dessert destination. Summer evenings draw the steadiest traffic: parents stopping with children after dinner, neighbors meeting up for a casual outing, the predictable warm-weather rhythm that outdoor ice cream and frozen-yogurt spots rely on. Winter months soften that pattern, though the self-serve model keeps regulars coming through on quieter afternoons. The toppings bar is the draw — fresh fruit options, candy varieties, granola, and mix-ins that let each person build their own bowl rather than choosing from a preset menu. This works for groups with different preferences and indecision-prone kids who need visual options. For a traditional sit-down ice cream parlor with a focused menu, other spots fill that role; La Michoacana fits the self-directed, build-it-yourself occasion.

Cold Stone Creamery operates as a self-serve frozen yogurt shop on Madison Avenue in Murrieta, where customers fill their own cup, choose from a rotating lineup of flavors, and build their bowl at the toppings bar. The format is straightforward — grab a cup, dispense, customize, weigh at checkout — which suits the casual, grab-it-and-go rhythm most visits follow rather than a sit-down dessert experience. Summer evenings draw families with kids wrapping up dinner plans and teens meeting friends for a treat, when the shop runs steady through the dinner hour and into early night. Winter months tend quieter, with fewer of the after-dinner foot traffic surges that define the warm-season pattern. Most residents pass through rather than linger; it fits the role of a quick weekend outing or a spontaneous stop on the way home from the grocery store, not a destination evening. The toppings bar appeals to kids who want control over their bowl and parents looking for a low-stakes dessert activity that doesn't require a reservation or a long wait.
Smelled horrible inside. So much that nothing was appetizing. Was worried the smell was going to be in the taste of the Ice Cream. Thankfully that was not the case. Service was good, it was hot that day, but could not eat inside due to the smell. Glad there was outdoor seating available.
I really love their ice cream but can management/owner PLEASE clean the place up. It’s disgusting. Floors are sticky, windows look like they haven’t been cleaned in years, out door seating is routinely gross, trash on the floor. It needs a good cleaning and then train workers to maintain cleanliness...
Absolutely love this place! Every time I come to Cold Stone, I know I'm in for a treat. The ice cream is always super creamy and fresh, and the variety of mix-ins means you can create a new favorite every visit. The staff was friendly and patient while I took forever to decide (so many choices!). I ...
