The Semester of Service Program offers students a volunteer project-based opportunity to support Federal missions, gaining hands-on experience & valuable career-ready skills. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution, & participation must be with the permission of the institution at which the student is enrolled.

• This vacancy announcement will be open from May 12, 2026 to May 18, 2026 or when 50 applications have been received. The vacancy will close on whichever day the first of these conditions are met. If the application limit is reached on the same day the announcement opened, the open and close date will be the same. Candidates are encouraged to read the entire announcement before submitting their application packages. Research Project: In order for RSO personnel to understand their Chinese police counterparts, RSO Shenyang requests a research paper about China's police force, including the overall history, size, gender composition, age requirements, hierarchy, and units. We would also like a detailed mapping and address list of police stations and training centers throughout China. This research paper should also include information on the academic curriculum for China's police force, the weapons and non-lethal tools they are trained to use, and which units use which lethal and non-lethal equipment. The paper should conclude with research on how China's police use technology in everyday public security policing and their police investigations. While we want the paper to cover all provinces of China so that the research helps all RSOs in Mission China to better understand our Chinese police counterparts with the aim of identifying where we are the same and where we are different. If time permits, we would like an addendum to the paper to include where our local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and legal authorities are similar and different, for example, China's National Immigration Administration is similar to DHS' Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security Investigations, and Diplomatic Security Service.
