How to Volunteer With Temecula's CERT and Teen Programs

Temecula volunteer opportunities with a real sign-up: CERT runs four classes a year and the Teen Community Service Program has a fixed October date.

By Allison Goodlin··Updated

If you've been hunting for concrete Temecula volunteer opportunities instead of vague "get involved" advice, the city runs two with fixed dates and real sign-ups: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and the Teen Community Service Program. Both come through the City of Temecula directly, so there's no guesswork about where to start.

What residents need to know:

  • Adult CERT: open to anyone 18+, $25 fee, three-day commitment.
  • Adult CERT meets at the Margarita Recreation Center, 29119 Margarita Rd.
  • Teen CERT: high schoolers 14-18, 24 hours of training, at the Community Recreation Center, 30875 Rancho Vista Rd.
  • Teen Community Service Program: students 11-18, register through the city.
  • "Community Serving Community" day: Saturday, October 17, 2026, pre-registration required.

Temecula CERT Training: Dates, Cost, and Where It Meets

The clearest on-ramp is CERT, run by the Temecula Citizen Corps through the Fire Department. The city teaches four classes a year, two for adults and two for teens, scheduled in spring and fall. Adult training is open to anyone 18 or older, costs $25, runs three days, and meets in the Multipurpose Room at the Margarita Recreation Center, 29119 Margarita Rd. Teen CERT is built for high school students ages 14-18, requires 24 hours of training at the Community Recreation Center at 30875 Rancho Vista Rd, and Temecula Valley Unified School District recognizes a minimum of 20 hours of community service toward graduation for completing it. That last detail makes Teen CERT the rare volunteer slot that doubles as a graduation requirement.

Teen Community Service and Other City Volunteer Slots

Beyond CERT, students ages 11-18 can register for the Teen Community Service Program, which includes joining city staff to distribute food boxes at a local nonprofit food pantry or volunteering at Rose Haven Heritage Garden. The city has locked in Saturday, October 17, 2026, for a "Community Serving Community" day, and pre-registration is required with space limited. Adults aren't shut out either: the city lists openings for the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and for General Library and Children's Volunteer roles at the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library. If you'd rather scout the parks first, the Temecula parks guide and our roundup of things to do in Temecula both point to the venues these programs use. Register early for the October 17 day before the limited slots fill.
